Terms of Use
Effective August 4, 2026
These terms govern your use of BirdMap (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
Who can use BirdMap
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If we add accounts or community features, you'll be asked to confirm your age, and additional rules will apply to anything you post.
What BirdMap is — and isn't
BirdMap shows where birds have been observed and estimates of when they occur. It is provided for general information and enjoyment. It is not a source of legal, safety, or regulatory advice. Bag limits, seasons, protected-species rules, and access permissions are set by government authorities — always confirm the official regulations and licensing for your area before acting.
Acceptable use
- Don't use the Service to locate, disturb, harass, or harm wildlife, including nests and roosts.
- Don't scrape, bulk-download, or resell our data or pages.
- Don't attempt to break, overload, or reverse-engineer the Service.
- Don't use the Service for anything unlawful.
User content
If and when the Service lets you post sightings, photos, or comments, you keep ownership of what you post and grant BirdMap a license to display and distribute it within the Service. You're responsible for what you post, and you agree not to post anything unlawful, infringing, or that reveals the precise location of a sensitive species against our guidelines. We may remove content and suspend accounts that break these rules.
Data & attribution
Observation data is sourced from third parties under their licenses (see methodology). Their licenses continue to apply. BirdMap's own compilation, design, and text are ours.
No warranty; limitation of liability
The Service is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. Data may be incomplete or wrong. To the fullest extent permitted by law, BirdMap is not liable for any damages arising from your use of the Service.
Changes
We may update these terms; material changes will be reflected by a new effective date. Continued use means you accept the updated terms.
