# BirdMap

> A map-first, login-free field companion for the birds of North America — where they've been seen, when they migrate through your state, and what to look for near you.

BirdMap is built on an honestly-labeled, owned-data stack. Every layer is marked for what it is:
- Sighting — a real, dated, research-grade observation.
- Modeled — a computed seasonal-likelihood estimate, always visually distinct from real sightings.
- Community — a sighting shared by a birder (sensitive species blurred).
- Historical — an older record.

We do NOT use or redistribute eBird data. Occurrence data is from iNaturalist (CC0/CC-BY) via GBIF; place boundaries from Natural Earth; basemap from OpenStreetMap.

## Honesty
BirdMap never claims eBird-grade or live nationwide species density. Timing is derived from real observation frequency; when data is too thin to be honest, we say so rather than inventing a curve.
